Sonico nets hat-trick as Loggers defeat Pacific

TACOMA, Washington – The University of Puget Sound men's soccer team defeated Pacific 3-1 Saturday afternoon to open their Northwest Conference schedule. Josh Sonico netted a hat-trick for the Loggers.

Puget Sound (3-3, 1-0 NWC) dominated the game from the initial whistle, outshooting the Boxers (2-4, 0-1 NWC) 17-4, including by a 12-1 mark in the first half.

Josh Sonico opened the scoring in the 18th minute. He lined up to take a corner kick, and the ball hooked just inside the near post to give the Loggers a 1-0 lead. In the 27th minute, Sonico would score again, this time heading in a goal off a Sam Zisette corner. In the second half, Sonico scored his third goal of the game, again an Olimpico goal directly off a corner kick.

Pacific would get one goal back in the 57th minute. Erix Jensen received a through ball at the top of the six-yard box and put the ball low far post to close the score to 3-1.
