TACOMA, Washington – The University of Puget Sound men's soccer team fell to No. 4 Whitworth 1-0 on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates (13-1-1, 9-1-1 NWC) outshot the Loggers (9-6-1, 7-3-1 NWC) 6-1 in the first half, but the Puget Sound defense stayed firm and the two teams entered halftime scoreless.

Five minutes into the second half, Whitworth took a 1-0 lead. Sam Engle received a ball on the left side of the box. His shot ricocheted off a Logger defender and snuck into the corner of the net. Puget Sound pressured the Pirates in the second half, but could not find an equalizer and ultimately fell.

The Pirates outshot Puget Sound 14-6, while also taking more corner kicks (11-5). Sam Zisette and Ezra Kraus led the squad with two shots, while goalkeeper Daniel Kirsch (9-5) made eight saves.

Puget Sound will next play George Fox on Saturday, October 31. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
