Loggers welcome the Whits this weekend

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's soccer team will play host to Whitworth and Whitman this weekend.  They will take on the Pirates on Saturday, September 24, before welcoming Whitman, on Sunday, September 25.

Puget Sound's last weekend

The Loggers (4-2, 1-1 NWC) opened their Northwest Conference schedule of games last weekend. The team played Pacific on Saturday, and fell, 1-0, in double overtime, despite outshooting the Boxers, 13-8. Puget Sound rebounded on Sunday, taking down George Fox, 4-1.

Scouting the Pirates (4-2, 2-0 NWC)

Whitworth University is 4-2 so far in 2016. The Pirates opened their conference slate of games last weekend, defeating Willamette, 2-1, and Linfield, 1-0. Junior Jonah Snyder leads the team with seven goals, while eight different players have tallied an assist. Goalkeeper Timmy Costa is 2-1, with one shutout, while recording eight saves and a 1.26 goals against average.

Scouting Whitman (4-4, 1-1 NWC)

Whitman College is 4-4 this season. The team opened Northwest Conference play with a split, defeating Linfield, 1-0, in overtime, before falling to Willamette, 3-0. Eric Conte leads Whitman with two goals scored, while also recording two assists. Eight other players have scored this season. Keeper Owen Davis-Bower is 3-2, making 24 saves, while recording two clean sheets and a 1.44 GAA.

Logger leaders

Ezra Kraus leads the squad, and is second in the league, with five goals scored. Freshman Luke Murdock leads Puget Sound and the Northwest Conference with five assists.

Goals on goals

The Loggers have scored at least three goals in four of their six games thus far in 2016. They average 3.0 goals per game, and have scored a league leading 18 goals this season.  

Conference honors

Goalkeeper Wren Norwood was named the Northwest Conference Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance over the opening weekend (Sept. 6). The sophomore made five saves, while keeping two clean sheets, as he played every minute of the three games.
