Men's soccer set for road games at Willamette, Linfield

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's soccer team will travel to Willamette and Linfield this weekend.  They will take on the Bearcats on Saturday, October 1, before playing the Wildcats on Sunday, October 2.

Puget Sound's last weekend

The Loggers (4-2-2, 1-1-2 NWC) welcomed the Whits for a pair of Northwest Conference matches last weekend, with both games ending in ties. Puget Sound and Whitworth tied, 2-2, while the Loggers tied, 1-1, with Whitman. Tristan Stevenson and Zac Lokay scored for Puget Sound over the weekend, while Jacob Palmer played every minute in goal.

Scouting the Bearcats (5-2, 3-1 NWC)

Willamette University is 5-2 so far in 2016. The Bearcats have won three consecutive games, defeating Whitman (3-0), Pacific (1-0), and George Fox (3-2). Nine different players have scored for Willamette, with Christopher Barnes and Sonachi Umeh leading the way with two goals each. Quinn Mello-Bastida leads the squad with three assists. Goalkeeper Josh Fuentes (5-2) has made 23 saves, while allowing five goals, and keeping three clean sheets. His 0.77 goals-against average leads the Northwest Conference.

Scouting the Wildcats (0-8-1, 0-4 NWC)

Linfield College is 0-8-1 this season. The team most recently fell to George Fox (2-1) and Pacific (2-0). Brian DeGrandmont, Aaron Barber-Axthelm, and Dylan Shepard have each scored for the Wildcats. Goalkeeper Jorge Rodriguez (0-6) has made 33 saves with a 1.32 goals-against average.

Logger leaders

Ezra Kraus leads the squad, and is third in the league, with five goals scored. Freshman Luke Murdock leads Puget Sound and the Northwest Conference with five assists. The Loggers are tied for the league lead with 21 goals scored, and lead the NWC with 15 assists.  

Conference honors

Goalkeeper Wren Norwood was named the Northwest Conference Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance over the opening weekend (Sept. 6). The sophomore made five saves, while keeping two clean sheets, as he played every minute of the three games.
