Men's soccer enters pivotal weekend at the Whits

TACOMA, Washington –The Puget Sound men's soccer team prepares for a weekend of road games as the Loggers battle Whitworth on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 2:30 p.m., and Whitman Sunday, Oct. 22, at 2:30p.m.

Conference landscape

Puget Sound is tied with Whitworth for third place in the Northwest Conference (16 points). Whitman is in fifth with 14 points. Willamette (20 points) and Pacific Lutheran (19 points) enter the weekend as the top two teams in the NWC. 

 

Offensive warriors

The Loggers are over halfway through season, playing 12 games thus far. They have scored 19 goals this season, which is tied with Whitman for third in the Northwest Conference. The attack is averaging 1.58 goals a game and 11.3 shots.

 

Imrpoving in the second go-round

The Loggers completed last weekend with a 1-1 tie against Pacific, and a whopping 4-0 win over George Fox. It was the second time Puget Sound faced these teams, improving both outcomes from the first go-round. The Loggers fell to Pacific, 1-0, and defeated George Fox, 1-0.

 

Kraus comes back

Forward Ezra Kraus has returned after nursing an injury for several weeks. In his first weekend back on the pitch, he recorded two goals and one assist. Those efforts earned him his second Logger Club Logger of the Week this season.

 

Scouting Whitworth (7-6-1, 5-3-1 NWC)

The Pirates fell to the Loggers, 4-1, in their first meeting of the season, Sept. 24. However, the Pirates enter the weekend with a four-game winning streak, recording 11 goals through their four wins. Forward Moi Diaz holds down second place in the NWC for goals at seven, Diaz recorded two goals and two assists in Whitworth's pair of wins last weekend.

 

Scouting Whitman (5-7-2, 4-3-2 NWC)

The Loggers handled the Blues in their first matchup of the season, 1-0, in Tacoma, Sept. 23. Whitman hosts Pacific Lutheran on Saturday, before hosting the Loggers on Sunday. Blues' defender Noah Cavanaugh leads the Whitman attack with five goals, averaging 1.57 shots per game and .36 goals per game.
