SPOKANE, Washington – Trailing by a goal in the waning minutes, the Puget Sound men's soccer team earned three late corner kicks, but the Loggers could not capitalize in a 1-0 loss at Whitworth on Sunday.
Benjamin Whitham lined up three corner kicks in the final 95 seconds of regulation, but Puget Sound (7-5-1, 5-4-1 NWC) was unable to find the back of the net.
Puget Sound goalkeeper Wren Norwood finished with a season-high eight saves. The Pirates (8-6-1, 6-3-1 NWC) beat Norwood and the Logger defense with the game's only goal by Daniel Alvarez in the 34th minute.
The Loggers put four of their seven shots on goal, while Whitworth was on target in nine of its 18 shots.
The Loggers have an opportunity to bounce back at Whitman on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 2:30 p.m.
