Men's soccer hosts the Whits this weekend

TACOMA, Washington – After an unbeaten weekend on the road against Northwest Conference teams, the Puget Sound men's soccer team returns home to host Whitman and Whitworth this weekend.

Going Hamel

Sean Hamel was named the Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week after he totaled four points last weekend. Hamel scored a goal and assisted on two more during the Loggers' 3-3 tie at George Fox. He leads the NWC in assists with seven.

 

No docking points

Luke Murdock enters the weekend with the third-most points in the NWC. He has 15 points on six goals and three assists.

 

Diversified scoring

Puget Sound ranks third in NWC in scoring with 29 goals, and 11 different Loggers have accounted for those goals. Luke Murdock leads the way with six goals, while Gabriel Faro-White, Dane Schatz, and Cale Spence each have four goals.

 

Home field advantage

Puget Sound has a 4-2-1 record at home this fall, compared to a 1-2-2 mark on the road.

 

Second time around

During their first meetings this season, Puget Sound tied Whitworth, 1-1 (Sept. 22), and lost at Whitman, 1-0 (Sept. 23). Wren Norwood totaled eight saves that weekend, and Luke Murdock scored the goal against the Pirates.

 

Scouting Whitman (7-6-0, 6-3-0 NWC)

The Blues have alternated wins and losses in their last four matches, but their most recent game was a 5-0 victory over Linfield. Whitman's 0.66 GAA leads the NWC. Peter Stephens is the team's leading scorer with four goals.

 

Scouting Whitworth (4-8-3, 3-4-2 NWC)

The Pirates enter this weekend winless in their last five games, though their most recent result was a 1-1 tie against first-place Willamette. Whitworth has attempted a league-high 215 shots. Drew Williams leads the team in scoring with five goals.
