Loggers No Match For #20 Whitman, Fall 8-1

TACOMA, Wash. - Taking on the 20th-ranked team in the nation, the Puget Sound Loggers had little answer for the Whitman Missionaries, falling 8-1 in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Sunday morning at the UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers picked up a point as the team of Scooter Sabel (Sun Valley, Idaho/Community School) and Andrew Timmons (Shoreview, Minn/Mounds View) pulled out a win over the team of Reid Bennett and David Deming, 8-6.  The Loggers kept the other matches close but Whitman added a pair of wins to take a 2-1 lead.

In singles play, the closest the Loggers would get to a victory came in the fourth position as Sabel battled with Jasper Follows before falling, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).

The Loggers hit the road next weekend, traveling to George Fox and Lewis & Clark in a pair of NWC contests.

A leader among the men's tennis team, Andrew has been a consistent contributor over the past two seasons. "Starting the 2009 season 0-8 was tough but putting together the comeback to make conference was great. It was a good feeling to come back from such a deficit."
