M. Tennis Falls But Still Earns Berth To NWC Tournament

SALEM, Ore. - The Puget Sound Logger men's tennis team is headed to the 2009 Northwest Conference tournament, despite falling to the Willamette Bearcats in a NWC men's tennis match on Saturday afternoon in Salem, Ore.

In the match on Saturday, the Loggers got a win in the number three doubles position from the team of Scooter Sabel (Sun Valley, Idaho/Community School) and Andrew Timmons (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View).  Sabel, who has been perhaps the most consistent player for Puget Sound this season, also collected a victory at the number four singles position, holding off Alex Sepenzis, 6-0, 7-6 (7-1).

The Loggers will head into the conferense tournament as the sixth seed, setting up an early morning meeting with third-seed Linfield on Friday morning.  With the win Willamette earned the fourth seed, winning a tiebreaker over Whitworth.  Whitman is the top seed  while Pacific Lutheran will also receive a first-round bye as the second seed.  The tournament gets under way on Friday morning at the Yakima Tennis Club in Yakima, Wash.
