Softball Drops Pair at SOU Invite

MEDFORD, Ore. - Taking on a pair of NAIA foes, the Puget Sound Loggers dropped a pair of games at the Southern Oregon Invitational on Friday at US Cellular Park in Medford, Ore.  The Loggers fell to the host Raiders, 8-0, in their opener and then played Concordia (Ore.) tight, falling 9-6.

In their first game, the Loggers made some errors in the field and the Raiders took advantage.  After two Logger errors in the bottom of the first, Southern Oregon was able to put three unearned runs on the board to take the early lead.  The Loggers were able to shut SOU down for the next three innings, though Southern Oregon starter Jordy Kurtz had the Loggers number, holding them to just two hits on the game while posting six strikeouts.  The Raiders blew it open again in the bottom of the fifth, as a Logger error with two outs opened the flood gates and Southern Oregon responded with five runs to end the game early.

Andi Doerflinger (Juneau, Alaska/Juneau-Douglas) took the loss, allowing eight runs, none of them earned, on nine hits in four and two-thirds innings pitched.

In the second game, the Loggers fell to Concordia (Ore.) by a score of 9-6.  No statistics from that game were made available at the end of the game.

The Loggers will be in action again on Saturday when they take on NAIA 17th-ranked Oregon Tech in a game that is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at US Cellular Park in Medford.
