Loggers Fall Twice to #7 Bearcats

TACOMA, Wash. - Taking on the seventh-ranked Willamette Bearcats, the Puget Sound Loggers gave it all they had but fell short, dropping both ends of a Northwest Conference doubleheader, 4-0 and 5-0, on Friday afternoon at Logger Field in Tacoma, Wash.

In the first game, the Bearcats got on the board in the top of the third on a home run by Talissa Huntsman to take an early 1-0 lead.  The Loggers struggled at the plate as Nikki Franchi struck out 10 batters and held Puget Sound to just three hits as Willamette used three insurance runs in the sixth to take the 4-0 win.  Auriel Sperberg (Spanaway, Wash./Graham-Kapowsin) took the loss, allowing four runs and six hits in seven innings pitched with three strikeouts.

In the second game, the Loggers kept the Bearcats offense in check until the top of the sixth inning but the Logger bats just couldn't push any runs across as Willamette used five late runs to collect the 5-0 victory.  Alex Watilo got the win for Willamette, allowing just two hits in seven innings pitched with a pair of strikeouts.  Aryn Grause (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley) took the loss for UPS, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings pitched with a pair of strikeouts.

The Loggers will be back in action on Wednesday when they play host to Linfield in a Northwest Conference doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Logger Field in Tacoma, Wash.
