Boxers Punch Past Loggers, 5-3

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth, the Pacific Boxers held off the Puget Sound Loggers, 5-3, in a Northwest Conference softball game on Thursday evening in Forest Grove, Ore.

The Boxers took the early lead with a single run in the bottom of the second but the Loggers quickly negated that.  In the top of the third, Aryn Grause (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley) hit a two-RBI double to center field to score Meghan Watson (Brier, Wash./Mountlake Terrace) and Hilary Rice (St. Paul, Minn/St. Paul Academy).  Senior Victoria Raeburn (Gladstone, Ore.) followed that up with an RBI single to score Grause and give UPS the 3-1 lead.

The Boxers got a run closer in the bottom of the inning but the Loggers held on the lead until the bottom of the sixth.  In the sixth, Ashley Billingsley hit a three-run home run to give the Boxers a 5-3 lead and the eventual win.

Auriel Sperberg took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits in six innings pitched.  Miranda McNealy collected the win for Pacific, allowing just four hits in four scoreless innings pitched.

The Loggers head down to Salem, Ore. on Friday for a doubleheader with the Willamette Bearcats.
