#2 'Cats Swing Past Loggers

TACOMA, Wash. - Following a pair of close games in McMinnville a few weeks ago, the second-ranked Linfield Wildcats did not take the Puget Sound Loggers lightly and took care of business at the plate en route to a 14-2 victory in a Northwest Conference softball game on Wednesday afternoon at Logger Softball Field in Tacoma, Wash.

The Wildcats put three on the board in the top of the second when Sami Keim doubled in Alex Hartman and Staci Doucette and then Natalie Taylor singled in Keim for a 3-0 Linfield lead.  Linfield used a trio of home runs in the top of the fifth to take a 7-0 lead but the Loggers struck back in the bottom of the inning when Carolyn Moore (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names) hit her second home run of the season to score Hilary Rice (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) as well to cut the lead to 7-2.

In the top of the sixth, the Wildcats took advantage of a few Logger errors to put seven more runs on the board as they left Tacoma with the 14-2 victory.  Brittany Miller collected the win, allowing two runs on two hits with seven strikeouts in five innings pitched.  Auriel Sperberg (Spanaway, Wash./Graham-Kapowsin) took the loss, allowing seven runs, six earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts in four and one-third innings pitched.

The Loggers will be back on the diamond on Saturday when they travel to Parkland to take on Pacific Lutheran in a NWC doubleheader beginning at Noon on PLU Softball Field.

As a freshman, Megan took over the duties as starting catcher and the rest of the Northwest Conference quickly learned who she as her cannon arm threw out 18 runners in 2009. "My best memory as a Logger was our spring break trip to California and just getting to hang out with my teammates."
