McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Puget Sound softball team was swept 15-1 and 8-0 on Saturday at defending national champion and top-ranked Linfield. Linfield (12-0, 10-0 NWC) used two big innings to key the sweep.
Game 1 – L, 1-15
After a scoreless first, Linfield erupted for 12 runs in the second inning to open a comfortable lead. They added three more in the fourth for the run-rule victory.
Emilie Lepp led the Wildcats with four RBI and two runs scored while going 2-for-4 in the game.
Lauren Harvey picked up the win for Linfield while Elayna Van Hess was charged with the loss. The Wildcats outhit the Loggers 12-4.
Game 2 – L, 0-8
The Wildcats scored six runs in the first to build another early lead and allowed just one Logger hit in the game. Staci Doucette hit a grand slam and Haylie Watson homered in the first to tally Linfield's six runs.
Joleen Monfiletto took the ball in the circle in the second inning and allowed just two Linfield runs on three hits while fanning two.
Chrissy Atterson led off with the second with a single for the Loggers only hit in the game.
Karin Paavola earned the win and combined with Shelby VandeBergh for the 1-hit shutout. The pair also combined for 11 strikeouts.
The Loggers head to Willametter tomorrow for another NWC doubleheader.
