Loggers Lose Heartbreaker In Twinbill At Cal Lu
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Puget Sound softball team suffered a heart-breaking 4-3 loss in game one of a doubleheader with Cal Lutheran before falling 10-0 in the second game. Chrissy Atterson had four hits on the day to lead the Loggers (2-12).
Game 1 - L, 3-4
Cal Lutheran scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete a comeback victory over the Loggers in the first game of the doubleheader.
Chrissy Atterson helped the Loggers build a 3-1 with and RBI-double in the third and a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Both times she plated Tahni Arndt. Jenica Holt also collected an RBI-groundout in the fifth that gave the Loggers a 2-1 lead.
Elayna Van Hess was cruising through the first six innings as she limited the Regals to just one run in the fourth. She also struck out three batters in the game.
However, the seventh began with a Logger error to begin the rally. After a single from Katelyn Downing put two on with one out. Danika Green singled in both runs and advanced to third on another Logger error to set up the game-winning hit. Brittany Labbe came though in the next at bat to secure the win for the Regals.
Game 2 - L, 0-10
The Regals rode the momentum of their comeback win to a 10-0 run-rule win over the Loggers in the nightcap. The Regals scored early and often to key the big win.
Downing had three RBI in the game while going 2-for-2 to lead the offensive outburst. Labbe went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI to aid in the win.
The Regals scored three in the first, two in the second and four in the third to put the game away early.
Atterson continued to swing a hot bat as she went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles. However, the Loggers were unable to get going again offensively as they managed just three hits in the game.
The Loggers finish up the southern California portion of their road trip with a doubleheader agaist Pomona-Pitzer tomorrow.
