FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Puget Sound softball team dropped two 8-0 decisions in a Northwest Conference doubleheader at Pacific. The Loggers (0-8, 0-4 NWC) threatened in multiple innings in the first game but were unable to scratch out a run.
Game 1 – L, 0-8 (5 inns.)
The Boxers (6-6, 3-1 NWC) jumped on top early, pounding out five hits and scoring four runs in the top of the first. Another three runs came in the fourth inning for the Boxers as they came away with the run-rule win.
Amy Schmeckpeper and Jenica Holt had hits in the game for the Loggers. Holt led off the third inning with a double to put the Loggers in business. The bases were later loaded after walks to Brianna Huber and Schmeckpeper, but the inning ended with all three Loggers still aboard.
Jessie Moore and Megan Winans led the Boxers with two RBIs and two hits a piece while Jenn Yano earned the win in the circle.
The Loggers drew three walks in the game but stranded seven runners on base.
Game 2 – L, 0-8 (5 inns.)
The Boxers jumped on top early with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Boxers took advantage of two Logger errors in the inning to gain the early lead. Three more runs came in the third and two more came in the fourth to earn the run-rule win.
The Loggers committed five errors in the game, which led to four unearned runs on freshman Megan Campbell's stat line. Marissa Reichard earned her third win of the season in the circle with the complete game shutout for the Boxers.
Schmeckpeper singled again and drew a walk to lead the Loggers at the plate but Huber was the only other Loggers to get aboard with a single of her own.
The Loggers season-opening 12-game road trip continues next week when they head to George Fox for a four-game series.
