TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound softball team opened its four-game home weekend series against Whitworth by dropping two contests on Saturday.
Puget Sound 2, Whitworth 13 (5 inn.)
Two Logger (4-20, 1-11 NWC) errors helped the Pirates (20-6) take a 6-0 lead through the first two innings. Puget Sound was held hitless in its first trip through the order, but the Loggers struck for a pair of runs in the fourth inning.
Jessica Gott led off with a walk and two batter later Lisa Colombo also drew a free pass. Kristi Nagamine's single loaded the bases for Paige Schaffer, who delivered with a two-run single to left field.

The Loggers kept pace with Whitworth in the early going before the Pirates plated two runs in the third inning.
The Loggers threatened to score in the sixth inning when Jessica Gott hit a one-out to double to centerfield. Jaci Young's hard groundout moved Gott to third, but that's as far as she would get.
Gott also made her first-career appearance in the circle. She didn't allow a base runner through 1.2 innings and recorded a strikeout.
The Loggers and Pirates conclude their series with a doubleheader on Sunday, March 29, at 12 p.m.
