McMINNVILLE, Oregon – Despite a strong defensive performance, the Puget Sound softball team lost two games at Linfield on Friday. The Loggers committed only one error between the two games.
Puget Sound 0, Linfield 8 (6 inn.)
Lisa Colombo (2-for-3) and Bailee Larson (2-for-4) each finished with multiple hits, but Wildcats scored four runs in the sixth inning to end the game early. Larson's single in the first inning put runners on the corners with two outs in the top of the first, but the Loggers were unable to capitalize.
Lisa Colombo's first single put runners on first and second with two outs in the third inning. Larson followed with a base hit to left field, but Jessica Gott (1-for-1) was thrown out at home after she tried to score from second base.
Starting pitcher Jaci Young allowed just two earned runs through five innings for the Loggers.
Puget Sound 1, Linfield 9 (6 inn.)
The Loggers entered the fifth inning in a 4-0 deficit, but Erica Gott (1-for-2, R) led off with a single. Haley Gray (0-for-1) was hit by a pitch to put two runners on, and Larson's groundout advanced both runners. Amelia Rice (1-for-2, RBI) grounded out to second base, allowing Gott to score from third. The Wildcats rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Loggers return to the field for a doubleheader at Willamette on Saturday, April 4, at 12 p.m.
