TACOMA, Washington – Kristi Nagamine recorded an RBI, but the Puget Sound softball team fell in a doubleheader to Linfield on Saturday afternoon. The Loggers fell, 11-1, in the first game, before losing, 8-1, in the nightcap.
Nagamine led the way for the Loggers (11-20, 4-16 NWC). Erica Gott (1-for-4), Jessica Gott (1-for-5), Kaitlyn Webster (1-for-5), Mckenna Johnson (1-for-2), Amber Popovich (1-for-6), and Jaci Young (1-for-5) each recorded a hit on the day.
Linfield 11, Puget Sound 1
The two team remained scoreless through the first two innings, but Linfield (26-6, 15-5 NWC) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. The Wildcats added two runs in the fourth inning to hold a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Erica Gott came around to score to narrow the margin to 5-1. However, in the top of the seventh inning, Linfield scored six runs to take control of the game, and ultimately took the victory, 11-1.
Linfield 8, Puget Sound 1
The Wildcats opened the second game hot, taking a 6-0 lead in the first inning. In the third inning, Kristi Nagamine recorded an RBI double, bringing Amber Popovich around to score. Linfield got that run back in the fifth inning, and added one additional run in the seventh to build an 8-1 cushion. The Loggers were unable to bring around any runs in the bottom of the seventh, and fell.
Jessica Gott (2-4) took the loss in the circle. She allowed six runs in 0.2 innings. Kasey Stern threw 5.2 innings, allowing two runs and striking out one. Jaci Young threw the final 0.2 innings, striking out one batter.
The Loggers will wrap up their four-game series with Linfield on Sunday, April 9. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
