TACOMA, Washington – Noelle Kerr drove in three runs, including a clutch two-run single, while Mackensie Pearlstein and Erica Gott each totaled three hits during the Loggers' doubleheader wins at home against Willamette Monday afternoon.
Puget Sound 7, Willamette 4
Popovich reached base on a fielder's choice in the first inning, and she moved into scoring position thanks to Jessica Gott's walk. Erica Gott smacked a single back up the middle to score Popovich and give the Loggers a 1-0 lead.
Puget Sound (9-22-1, 7-15 NWC) doubled its lead in the second inning when Popovich singled home Abby Brondos.
Willamette (5-22, 5-15 NWC) evened the score in the third inning, but the Puget Sound offense wasn't done. A Bearcats' error and an RBI single by Erica Gott gave Puget Sound a 4-2 edge in the fourth inning.
The Loggers struck for three runs in the fifth inning: one on an error, one on a passed ball, and the third on an RBI single by Popovich.
Puget Sound 4, Willamette 2
Noelle Kerr went 1-for-2 at the plate with three RBI as the Loggers finished Monday with a 4-2 win over Willamette.
Kerr put the Loggers on the board in the first inning when she drew a bases-loaded walk. Still, Willamette carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning.
Puget Sound broke through with three runs in the home half of the fourth. Mackensie Pearlstein hit a one-out double, and Jessica Gott drew a two-out walk. Erica Gott's double to centerfied scored Pearlstein, and Kerr ripped a single to right field to score both Erica Gott and Jessica Gott.
Jessica Gott earned the win in the circle, yielding just two earned runs in a complete game.
Saturday, April 14, marks Senior Day for Puget Sound. The Loggers host Pacific Lutheran for a doubleheader at 12 p.m., and Puget Sound will celebrate its senior class: Amanda Fehr, Erica Gott, Jessica Gott, Haley Gray, Amber Popovich, and Kasey Stern.
