Loggers Splash Past Pioneers On Senior Day

TACOMA, Wash. - In the final home meet of the season, the Puget Sound Loggers put together one of their best meets of the year, sweeping past the Lewis & Clark Pioneers in a Northwest Conference swim meet on Saturday afternoon at Wallace Pool in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers opened up the meet with a pair of easy victories in the 200m medley relay.  In the first individual race, Elizabeth MacAfee (Los Gatos, Calif.) won the 800m free by nearly 30 seconds as she finished the 32-length race in 9:43.68.  Junior Jack Zaharchuk (Portland, Ore.) got a win as well, posting a time of 9:26.58 to improve his seed time by over 10 seconds.

Senior Katie Barton (Boise, Idaho) out-touched teammate Ava Williams (Eagle River, Alaska) in the 200m free to win with a time of 2:14.73 and then freshman Joseph Kalb (Tehachapi, Calif.) collected a one-second win in the men's 200m free with a 2:05.17.

Senior Jackson Kowalski (Keizer, Ore.) easily took care of the competition in the 100m backstroke, going 59.04 to beat his seed-time by a quarter-second.  In the women's 100m breaststroke, sophomore Sierra Phillips (Cottonwood Heights, Utah) soared past her opponents with a time of 1:19.59 while Zaharchuk made it two wins for the day with a time of 1:12.54 to win the men's 100 breaststroke.

Junior Kelsey Elizondo (Salt Lake City, Utah) took first in the women's 200m fly with a time of 2:31.45 while Aleksander Jeremic (Skopje, Macedonia) took first in the men's 200m fly with a time of 2:15.83.  Senior Hally Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) won the final home 50m free of her career with a time of 29.26 while Adam Ganz (Cleveland, Ohio) took first in the men's 50m free with a time of 25.18.

Barton won her second event of the afternoon in the 100m free as she improved on her season-best with a 1:01.37.  In the men's 100m, Jeremic took first by nearly three seconds with a time of 54.95.  Freshman Zach Walker (Portland, Ore.) was victorious in the men's 200m backstroke with a time of 2:25.85.

Freshman Tracy Wormwood (Elk River, Minn.) led a sweep of the top three in the women's 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:46.27 and then Maxwell Cohen (Albuquerque, N.M.) took the men's race with a time of 2:35.49.  

MacAfee won her second race in the 100m fly as she won by over three seconds with a time of 1:09.91.  Kowalski also become a multiple-event winner in the 100m fly with a time of 59.68.  Elizondo won her second event of the afternoon in the 200m IM with a time of 2:37.37.  

Jeremic made it three individual victories in the 200m IM, edging out Cohen with a time of 2:17.34.  The Logger men posted a winning score of 177-77 while the Logger women collected their best point total of the season, defeating L&C 183-75.

The Loggers will head east next week as they travel to Whitman and Whitworth to conclude the dual portion of the NWC schedule.
