Loggers Take Second At NWC Relays
TACOMA, Wash. – Winning three events in their home pool,
the Puget Sound Loggers placed second at the Northwest Conference
Relay Meet on Saturday at Wallace Pool in Tacoma, Wash. Whitworth
University won the team title, scoring 93 points, compared with 72
for the host Loggers.
The Loggers first win came in the women’s 300m breaststroke
relay as Tracy Wormwood (Elk River, Minn.), Jessica Jaynes (Denver,
Colo./East) and Sierra Phillips (Cottonwood Heights, Utah/Brighton)
combined to finish in 3:57.48 to win the event by over 15
seconds.
Puget Sound’s second victory came in the mixed 200m freestyle
relay as the team of Katie Barton (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly),
Hally Roberts (Boulder, Colo./Kenyon College), Christopher Daly
(Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) and Adam Ganz (Cleveland,
Ohio/Beachwood) collected a three-second victory over second-place
Lewis & Clark.
The final Logger victory of the meet came in the men’s 900m
freestyle relay as Jack Zaharchuk (Portland, Ore./Cleveland),
Joseph Kalb (Tehachapi, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) and Nick
Burns (University Place, Wash./Curtis) collected a 11.15 second
victory over Whitworth.
Following the first-place Pirates and the second-place Loggers,
Linfield College took third, followed by Pacific Lutheran, Pacific,
Lewis & Clark and Willamette.
The Loggers open up the dual portion of the NWC schedule on Friday
when they play host to Pacific Lutheran, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at
Wallace Pool.
