Loggers Take Fourth At Relay Meet

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Puget Sound swim teams jumped back into the waters of competition today at the Northwest Conference Relays. The Loggers placed fourth out of the eight NWC teams with 70 points.

The NWC Relays feature a schedule of nontraditional relay events, including mixed gender events and 300 and 600 yard events.

The Logger women brought home the only event win for the Loggers. Melissa Norrish, Mariah Snowden and Auri Clark combined for a 3:05.07 to win the 300 fly relay.

The men's team turned in three runner up performances to highlight the day. The men finished second in the 600 free relay, the 300 back relay and the 300 fly relay.

The Loggers begin their dual meet season next weekend when they host Pacific on Friday at 6 p.m.

Sophomore Derek Frenzel burst on to the scene as a freshman in 2010-11. He not only earned a bid to the NCAA Championships but came away with All-America Honorable Mention. Frenzel now looks to be a leader for the Logger swim teams on his way back to the NCAA Championships. “I expect myself to lead by example and to always encourage others to do whatever they can to make our team successful. It takes a lot of commitment to the sport, the team, and the school to be successful in and out of the pool.”
