Wormwood, Frenzel Headed To NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Puget Sound swimming senior Tracy Wormwood and junior Derek Frenzel have each earned invitations to the 2013 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. Frenzel earned an automatic qualification at the NWC Championships and Wormwood was invited through her two provisional qualifying times.

With the invites, Frenzel and Wormwood continued the Loggers string of NCAA Championship appearances to 14 consecutive years. The Loggers have participated in every NCAA Championship since converting to Division III in the 1999-00 season. They are the only program in the NWC to appear in every national championship meet during that time frame.

Frenzel's invite came through the 200 fly. He won the conference title in the event a few weeks ago and posted a time of 1:49.49 in the preliminary heat to earn the automatic qualification into the national championship. His time, which is a Puget Sound and NWC record, ranks ninth in the nation.

Frenzel will also be swimming the 500 free and the 1650 free. He earned provisional qualifying times in both events this year.

Wormwood earned her fourth career invitation to the NCAA Championship meet in both the 100 and 200 breast. Her time of 1:04.43 in the 100 breast ranks 10th in the nation while her 2:19.42 in the 200 breast ranks 11th. Last year, Wormwood earned All-America Honorable Mention for the first time in her career and is in a solid position to earn All-America honors once again. She will also compete in the 400 IM.

The meet will take place from Mar. 20-23 at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.
