SHENANDOAH, Texas – Derek Frenzel and Tracy Wormwood capped the 2012-13 season on Saturday with their final swims at the NCAA Division III Championships. Derek Frenzel took 16th in the 1650 free to earn All-America Honorable Mention in the event.
In a timed final on Saturday, Frenzel swam a 16:27.02 to finish 16th in the 1650 free. This is the second All-America Honorable Mention of Frenzel's career after he earned the same honor in the 200 fly last year.
Wormwood not only finished her season but swam the last event of her career on Saturday in the 200 breast. She placed 20th in the event this year with a 2:22.13 in her final swim.
Wormwood certainly left her mark on the program with as she completed her fourth career trip to the NCAA championship meet. Her career included multiple NWC titles as well as All-America Honorable Mention. She was also the Alice Bond Award winner last year as the top female student-athlete.
SHENENDOAH, Texas – Senior Tracy Wormwood and junior Derek Frenzel both swam their best events today at the NCAA Division III swimming championships. The pair have been representing the Puget Sound swim teams this week.
Frenzel was ranked ninth in the 200 fly with his NWC championship time 1:49.49. He swam a 1:50.51 in the preliminary heat this morning, which missed the cut into final by about half of a second. He took 23rd in the event.
Wormwood swam the 100 breast and was also ranked among the top-16 entering the event. She finished 17th in the preliminary heats with a 1:05.21. Should any of the top-16 swimmers pull out of the finals heats, she would be able to swim the 100 breast one more time in her career.
Both swimmers took to the pool earlier in the meet. Frenzel placed 30th in the 500 free on Wednesday and Wormwood took 28th in the 400 IM on Thursday.
Frenzel concluded his third trip to the NCAA Championships with the 200 fly but Wormwood will 200 breast tomorrow. She is ranked 11th in the event.
