TACOMA, Washington – The week began with a couple of Northwest Conference honors, and it continues with a couple of Northwest Conference road duals. The Puget Sound men's and women's swim teams resume their conference schedule at Whitman, Friday, Jan. 19, at 6 p.m. The Loggers then take on Whitworth, Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m.
NWC nods for Callahan, Reimers
Sophomores Kelli Callahan and Dylan Reimers were named the NWC Student-Athletes of the Week for women's and men's swimming, respectively. Both Reimers and Callahan earned two first-place and one second-place finishes at Trinity (Tex.), Jan. 9. Reimers won the 300-yard freestyle (2:48.43) and placed second in the 250-IM (2:43.26). He was part of the victorious 450-freestyle relay team (3:51.93) with Caleb Van Boven, Justin Sasano, and Nick Mitchell. Callahan won the women's 250-IM (2:50.38) and took second in the 300-freestyle (3:09.54). She teamed up with Melisa Kegans, Kayla DiMicco, and Calista Skog to win the 450-freestyle relay (4:09.13). Both Reimer and Callahan earned their second NWC Student-Athlete of the Week honor this season.
The Logger women are tied with Pacific Lutheran with a 4-0 record this season. Whitman follows at 3-1, while Linfield and Whitworth are both 2-2. Lewis & Clark has a 1-3 record, and Pacific and Willamette are both 0-4. On the men's side, the Loggers are even with Whitman at 3-1. Pacific Lutheran and Whitworth are both 4-0 atop the conference standings. Linfield is 2-2, while Lewis & Clark, Pacific, and Willamette are all 0-4.
Scouting the Whits
The Whitworth men won the Logger Invitational earlier this season (Dec. 1-3), while the Pirate women placed fourth – two spots behind the Loggers. The Whitman men finished third – one spot ahead of Puget Sound – in the Logger Invitational, while its women finished one spot behind the second-place Loggers. In recent competition, Whitworth lost its duals at NCAA D-I Seattle University (Jan. 6), and both Whitman teams lost to Claremont-M-S (Jan. 10).
Following this weekend, the Loggers have one meet before the NWC Championships (Feb. 9-11). The Loggers host Pacific Lutheran Saturday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m.
