Bailey Meets Provisional Mark On Day Two of NWC Championships
FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Senior Greg Bailey (Beaverton, Ore./Westview) all but punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships by taking second in the men's hammer at the 2009 Northwest Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon at Lincoln Park Stadium in Forest Grove, Ore. The Puget Sound Loggers finished in both the men's and women's team standings as Willamette took both team titles.
In the women's 100m hurdles, junior Caitlin McGrane (Colville, Wash.) took second as Irene Johnson of George Fox improved her time by four-tenths of a second to out last McGrane, who ran a 14.97 to miss the NCAA provisional time by just two one-hundredths of a second.
Karen Chase (Yakima, Wash./West Valley) took second in the women's shot put with a throw of 39-0.25 to finish five inches short of Christian Edholm of Willamette.
On the men's side, Bailey earned a second place finish in the men's hammer after unleashing a toss of 181-00 to finish about three feet short of champion Jacob Monroe of Willamette. According to raceberryjam.com, Bailey's throw is the fifth-best in NCAA Division III this season.
Alverno Middleton (Lakewood, Wash./Clover Park) took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 49-9 while Francis Reynolds (Palo Alto, Calif.) finished fourth in the 5000m run with a time of 15:25.18.
A select group of Loggers will be back in action on Saturday when they travel back to Forest Grove, Ore. for the Pacific Twilite Meet.
