Bailey, Middleton Win At John Knight Twilight

SALEM, Ore. - Having already met the provisional qualifying marks for the 2009 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, seniors Greg Bailey (Beaverton, Ore./Westview) and Alverno Middleton (Lakewood, Wash./Clover Park) won their respective events at the John Knight Twilight meet on Wednesday afternoon and evening in Salem, Ore.

Bailey, who threw 181-00 in the hammer at the 2009 NWC Championships, took first in the event at Wednesday's meet with a throw of  168-04.  Bailey's qualifying throw at the conference championship currently ranks as the seventh-best in DIII this season.

Middleton took first in the shot put with a throw of 49-10.5, which was 14.5 inches short of his qualifying mark set last week at the Pacific Twilight Meet in Forest Grove.  His qualifying mark ranks 15th in the nation this season.

The Logger men will have one final chance to set qualifying marks next week when they return to Salem, Ore. for the Willamette Last Chance Meet on May 14.  The Logger women will be in action on Friday at the Ken Foreman Invitational at Husky Stadium before joining the Puget Sound men at Willamette next week.
