Bailey, McGrane Headed To NCAA Championship
INDIANAPOLIS - After setting qualifying marks during the 2009 Northwest Conference Championships, senior Greg Bailey (Beaverton, Ore./Westview) and junior Caitlin McGrane (Colville, Wash.) will represent the Puget Sound Loggers at the 2009 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, hosted by Marietta College on May 21-23.
Bailey earned his first trip to the NCAA Championships after unleashing a throw of 181-0 to take second place in the men's hammer at the NWC Championships in April. His mark is the 11th best in Division III this season, which is enough to earn him a spot in the championship field. Sophomore Bryan Kolacz of Keene State is the top seed entering the meet after throwing 197-5 at the New England Championships on May 8.
McGrane earns her second straight trip to the national championships after posting a school-record score of 4,409 to win the NWC heptathlon. Last year, McGrane took 10th at the NCAA Championships in Wisconsin and will look to improve this year in Marietta, Ohio.
Both the heptathlon and the men's hammer are set to begin at 1:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday while the heptathlon will also be competed on Friday afternoon.
