McGrane Takes Ninth In NCAA DIII Heptathlon

MARIETTA, Ohio - A fifth-place finish in the 800m run was enough to move Puget Sound junior Caitlin McGrane (Colville, Wash.) into the top-1o in the final heptathlon standings at the 2009 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships on Friday at Don Drumm Stadium in Marietta, Ohio.

McGrane, who was tied with Willamette's Brooke Smith for 12th place entering the second day, opened the day with a 14th place performance in the long jump, putting together a mark of 15-6.75 (4.74m) for 490 points.  She then used a throw of 101-11 (31.07m) in the javelin to take 11th place and add 497 points as she stood in 13th place entering in the final event.

In the 800m run, which is traditionally a strong event for McGrane, she was able to put together a time of 2:22.76 to place fifth in the event and move up four spots to ninth in the final heptathlon standings, finishing with 4,367 points.

Senior Ashley Huston of Hardin-Simmons won the event, taking first in three events and second in two others to put up 5,242 points.
