Bailey, McGrane Named Academic All-District
TACOMA, Wash. - Just few weeks after representing Puget Sound at the 2009 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, senior Greg Bailey (Beaverton, Ore./Westview) and junior Caitlin McGrane (Colville, Wash.) have been named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America, as announced on Thursday afternoon.
Bailey earned first team honors after qualifying for the national championships in the men's hammer while carrying a 3.60 GPA as an economics major. Bailey took sixth in his flight at the NCAA Championships with a throw of 167-04 (51.01m). By earning first team honors, Bailey is now eligible for selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America teams, which will be announced on June 18.
McGrane earned second team honors after taking ninth at the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon while earning a 3.71 GPA as a politics and government major. McGrane set a school record in the heptathlon earlier this season when she compiled 4,409 points to win a second straight Northwest Conference title. At the national championships, McGrane took ninth with 4,367 points.
The Academic All-America program is run by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
