Reynolds Posts Provisional Time In Indoor 5k

SEATTLE, Wash. - Just two weeks removed from an All-American performance at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, junior Francis Reynolds (Palo Alto, Calif.) set himself up for a return trip to Indiana, posting a provisional qualifying time in the 5,000-meter run at the UW Winter Preview on Saturday at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash.

Reynolds, who placed 21st at the NCAA XC Championships, placed sixth in the race with a time of 14:46.53, nearly a second under the qualifying time of 14:47.50. He finished behind four Washington runners who were competing as unattached, as well as Saint Martin's John Riak.

In the shot put, senior Alverno Middleton (Lakewood, Wash./Clover Park) placed sixth after unleashing a throw of 13.68m on his first toss. Sam Washington of St. Martin's took first with a throw of 15.41m on his third throw.

Middleton also competed in the 35-pound weight throw, taking eighth with a throw of 13.65m. Teammate Greg Bailey (Beaverton, Ore./Westview) took seventh in the event, recording a throw of 13.91m. Michael Hoffman, an unattached athlete from Western Washington, took first with a throw of 15.59.

The 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on March 13-14 at the Sports and Recreation Center on the campus of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.
