FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The University of Puget Sound track teams travelled south to the Luau Invitational on Saturday and came away with some solid performances.
Hayley Walker took the Loggers lone title of the day when she placed first in the 1500m. Walker's time of 4:54.17 qualified for the NWC Championships and was a season-best. Andrea Leiken also finished near the top of her heats with second-place finishes in the 200 and 400.
The Logger women's 4x400m relay also took home a title with a time of 4:08.64, which is also a Loggers season-best in the event.
Maya Heck recorded a personal-best in the pole vault with a mark of 10 feet, 5.25 inches, which places third on the Loggers all-time list. She placed fourth in the event.
On the men's side, Emerson Sample recorded a season-best and NWC qualifying time in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.88. Joe Cerne also hit a PR and qualifying mark in the pole vault to finish third in the event. Cerne hit 12 feet, 10.75 inches.
Joe Cerne and Myles McDonald will compete at the NWC Multis on Monday and Tuesday in Spokane, Wash. The Loggers will next head to the Spike Arlt Invitational in Ellensburg, Wash. next Saturday.
