Thank you for your interest in the University of Puget Sound and our Cross Country and Track & Field programs. We hope you’ll find the following information beneficial as you decide where you’d like to continue your academic and athletic career. As always, if you have any questions about our university or our teams, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
The University of Puget Sound
At Puget Sound, we are very proud of both our academic and athletic accomplishments. Puget Sound offers one of the best liberal arts educations on the West Coast and consistently ranks as one of the top liberal arts universities nationally. Located in the beautiful North End neighborhood of Tacoma, Washington, Puget Sound provides the perfect setting for academic growth and athletic achievement. Students from 48 states and 20 countries make up an enrollment of roughly 2,600. We compete in the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference with eight other Pacific Northwest private liberal arts universities and consistently rank at the top of the conference athletically.
Puget Sound Cross Country and Track & Field
The Puget Sound Cross Country teams maintain a strong presence within the conference. In the past fifteen years, the Logger men have finished in the top three in the conference 11 times and the women have achieved that honor 8 times. The men’s and women’s teams have also regularly found themselves within the top half of the conference in Track & Field. These outcomes are a direct result of the motivated student-athletes Puget Sound regularly attracts. At the individual level we have produced 39 Cross Country and 54 Track & Field All-Americans since 1990 alone! The most recent addition was Francis Reynolds, who earned NCAA Division III All-American honors in both 2008 and 2009. In 1999, Dave Davis won the NCAA Division III Cross Country title while Dana Boyle captured the women’s individual title in 2001. In Track & Field, we’ve produced eight national champions.
Academics at Puget Sound
In addition to our success in track and cross country, we are also very proud of our numerous academic honors. Since 1990, 40 Cross Country and 41 Track & Field athletes have been selected to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. Both the Cross Country and Track & Field teams regularly win the University’s award given to the varsity sports team with the highest collective grade point average. The Women’s Cross Country Team won the award in both 2008 and 2009 and in 2004 the Men’s Cross Country Team became the first men’s team to ever win the award. At Puget Sound, we strive to develop student-athletes that are strong contributors not only on the track, but also in the classroom and on campus.
Athletic Facilities at Puget Sound
The University’s top rated sports facilities allow our student-athletes to succeed. Located within Baker Stadium is Shotwell Track, which was expanded and refurbished to the most precise NCAA specifications in 2003 and refinished over the summer of 2010. Memorial Fieldhouse also recently underwent extensive renovations and includes a state-of-the-art fitness center and athletic training facilities for our athletes. The University’s strong commitment to athletics proves evident through the ongoing improvements to our sporting venues.
