Defense Leads Loggers in 52-29 Win

TACOMA, Wash. - Holding the visiting Linfield Wildcats to just 14 second half points, the Puget Sound Loggers picked up a 52-29 victory in a Northwest Conference women's basketball game on Saturday evening at Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Wash.

In the first half, the Loggers (8-3, 2-0 NWC) kept the 'Cats (1-9, 0-1 NWC) from getting much offense.  Using seven first-half points from senior Andrea Edwards (Yakima, Wash./Columbia Basin CC), the Loggers took a 26-15 into the break.

In the second half, the cold Linfield offense turned Frigid as the Loggers kept on the defensive pressure, holding the 'Cats to just 21.7% shooting in the second half.  Picking up the 52-29 win, it marked the least amounts allowed by the Loggers since a 95-20 win over Caltech on Dec. 19, 2005.

The Loggers were led by 13 points from Karen Chase (Yakima, Wash./West Valley).  Caitlyn Faidley (Seattle, Wash./Azusa Pacific) came off the bench to score 12 points, including three-for-three from behind the arc.  Junior Natasha Ludwig (Hilo, Hawaii/Waiakea) brought down a game-high 10 rebounds in the win.

Linfield was paced by seven points from Kelsey Forrest.  The Wildcats picked up seven steals on the night off 18 Logger turnovers.

Puget Sound hits the road next week when they travel to Pacific Lutheran on Tuesday.  Tip-off with the Lutes is set for 6:00 p.m. at Olson Auditorium in Parkland, Wash.

Jocelyn exploded on the scene as a freshman and will be looked to help lead the Loggers as just a sophomore but it's a challenge she is happy to accept. "Being a Logger means being a well-rounded student, athlete and person. You have to work hard in the classroom, on the court and in the community."
