McKinnis Earns NWC Athlete Of The Week Honors

Senior Kelsey McKinnis was announced as the Northwest Conference Women's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week today. McKinnis led the Loggers to a 3-0 record this week and put up 36 points in the Loggers win over Southern Oregon.

McKinnis averaged over 24 points per game in three games this week to raise her average to 23.8 ppg on the season. The Loggers improved to 4-1 in the young season with wins over Northwest, Simpson and Southern Oregon.

McKinnis' 36 points on Sunday was the most by a Logger since the athletic department shifted into the NCAA Division III in 1999 and tied for the second-most in school history. To make the occasion even more special, McKinnis accomplished the historic feat in her hometown of Ashland, Ore.

Against Northwest, McKinnis scored 16 of her team-high 20 points in the second half and she tallied 17 points in just 19 minutes of playing time on Saturday against Simpson.

McKinnis's average of 23.8 ppg ranks second in the NWC and has vaulted into the Loggers top-10 scoring list. She now ranks 10th all-time in points scored.

The Loggers head down to Santa Cruz, Calif. this weekend for a pair of games with La Verne and UC Santa Cruz.

A team captain in her junior year, Kelsey McKinnis is primed for a great year. She has embraced what it means to be part of the Logger and Puget Sound community. “One thing I love about Puget Sound is the support from the Athletic community. At this size of a school, all the athletes support each other at their competitions. There is also a huge community support for Logger athletics. It's awesome to see local community members sporting the maroon and white!”
