TACOMA, Washington – Cal Lutheran's full court press stifled the Puget Sound women's basketball team early, but the Loggers maintained their composure en route to an 81-75 victory in the final day of the McArthur Classic on Saturday night.
The Regals (1-1) jumped out to a 13-6 lead through the first five minutes, but a jumper from the elbow by Drew Clark sparked a 7-0 run to tie things up. A 3-pointer by Samone Jackson gave the Loggers their first lead, 16-13, with less than one minute left in the first quarter.
Puget Sound (3-0) closed the opening quarter with an 18-17 edge, and the lead grew to 40-35 by halftime.
A jumper by Alexis Noren put the Loggers in control, 71-64, with 5:43 left in regulation. The Regals made it a one-point game, 71-70, but Jackson answered with another 3-pointer to cushion Puget Sound's lead.
Clark finished with a game-high eight rebounds, including three offensive boards.
Despite Cal Lutheran's tireless full-court press, Puget Sound committed 14 turnovers to the Regals' 17. The Loggers shot 48.8 percent from the floor, while their defensive effort limited the Regals to 40.3 percent.
Puget Sound returns to action at Corban on Wednesday, Nov. 23, for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
