Malvar assists Loggers to NWC wins, earns Logger of the Week

TACOMA, WashingtonCaitlin Malvar dished out 15 assists between the No. 18 Puget Sound women's basketball team's two Northwest Conference wins this weekend, and the freshman has been named the Logger Club Logger of the Week.

Malvar scored 12 points to go with eight assists during the Logges' (12-1, 4-0 NWC) 95-82 win over Willamette on Jan. 6. The next day, Malvar netted 11 points and added seven dimes at the Loggers toppled Lewis & Clark, 85-58.

Malvar shot 4-for-7 from the floor in both games, including 3-for-4 from 3-point range against the Pioneers.

The Portland, Oregon, native is averaging 7.25 assists in her last four games. She is tied with teammate Alexis Noren for second in the NWC with 4.2 assists per game. Malvar's 2.9 assist-to-turnover ratio is the second-best in the conference.

Puget Sound has a tall task next weekend when it travels to the "Whits." The Loggers tipoff at Whitworth on Friday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m., and then take on Whitman on Saturday, Jan. 14.
