Three Puget Sound women's basketball student-athletes (RaeAnn Allen, Giavanna Sorn, Sammie Swartout) and two coaches (Casey Kushiyama and Kayla) are in Spain with Beyond Sports Tours. The Loggers are teaming up with NCAA D-III student-athletes and coaches from across the U.S. for four games, community service initiatives, and tours throughout Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona.
RaeAnn Allen writes about the first few days of the trip.
Hello friends and family (mom and dad, especially),
The first couple of days in Spain have been amazing. We started out in Madrid, just left Toledo, and now we are on our way to Valencia! Life moves fast in Madrid (just like the pace of play on the basketball court), and the city is beautiful beyond words. The Plaza de Toros is incredible! We got to learn about the beauty and the rich history behind bull fighting and the city of Madrid. Along with visiting the royal palace, we got to tour the Stadium of Real Madrid.
My personal favorite thus far has been our quick stop in Toledo. Known for its Harry Potter-esque castles, we toured the Cathedral de Toledo. Along with the beautiful architecture and statues, there is a stone that is rumored that, if you touch it, you will return to Toledo again at some point in your life. Here's to hoping that comes true - I wished on that stone so hard!
And here's to hoping the next couple of days on the beach will help me with my tan. However, as far as I know, there is no sacred stone to help me out with that. I'm looking forward to all the adventures that Valencia and Barcelona hold for us.
