Three Puget Sound women's basketball student-athletes (RaeAnn Allen, Giavanna Sorn, Sammie Swartout) and two coaches (Casey Kushiyama and Kayla) are in Spain with Beyond Sports Tours. The Loggers are teaming up with NCAA D-III student-athletes and coaches from across the U.S. for four games, community service initiatives, and tours throughout Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona.
Giavanna Sorn writes about Valencia.
Wow! The last couple days have been full of adventure. We arrived in Valencia on Thursday and haven't looked back since! Our first day here was spent relaxing on the beach, followed by a day of participating in a community service event. We got to run through a series of basketball drills with some local kids which was a great experience!
After that, we were led on a guided tour of the city of Valencia. The architecture here is just as breathtaking as that of Madrid. Even though many of the structures are from the 17th century or earlier, they still look just as they did when they were originally constructed!
Valencia has been my favorite stop so far on the trip. I'm in love with the beautiful beaches and delicious food! When we first arrived we were served paella, which is a traditional dish of Valencia. I've been eating it throughout the trip, so fingers crossed I can find a place that serves it back in Washington!
It's been a great past few days here in Valencia, now on to Barcelona!
