Holgate's seven goals lead Loggers past Wildcats

MCMINNVILLE, Oregon – Callie Holgate's seven goals led the Puget Sound lacrosse team past Linfield, 14-5, on Sunday afternoon.  

Holgate led the Loggers (2-11, 2-5 NWC) in goals scored. Natalie Hereford and Roxanne Krietzman each recorded two goals, while Kerri Smith, Haley Schuster, and Izzy Amaya each chipped in a goal.

The Loggers went up, 2-0, in the first two minutes of the game. Linfield (0-14, 0-7 NWC) then scored twice to tie the game. After each team scored one additional goal, the Loggers went on a 5-0 run to end the first half. Puget Sound led 8-3 at the break.

Puget Sound came out with the same intensity in the second half, and rattled off four unanswered goals to begin the period. The Wildcats then scored two goals, but the Loggers responded with two goals of their own to extend their lead back to nine goals as time ticked down.

Goalkeeper Leah Stromberg (2-11) made six saves. Hannah Nichols led the Loggers with four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Three Loggers recorded two draw controls.     

Puget Sound will wrap up the season when they travel to George Fox on Saturday, April 23. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
