Levien Leads #6 Loggers Past Whitman, 2-1

TACOMA, Wash. - A pair of goals by junior forward Janece Levien (Beaverton, Ore.) was all it took for the sixth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers to get past the Whitman Missionaries, 2-1, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon on East Athletic Field in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers (13-1, 11-0 NWC) got on the board first when Levien took a pass from Jenny Moore (Kent, Wash./Kentwood) in the 19th minute and scored her 18th goal of the season and give UPS a 1-0 lead.  The Missionaries answered back in the 23rd minute when Lisa Forbes put the ball past Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) in the 23rd minute.  It was the first goal allowed by the Loggers in 658:25.

The Loggers took back the lead in the 79th minutes, again off the foot of Levien following a pass from freshman Mikaela Freeman (Alameda, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) as the Loggers took the 2-1 win.

Wolfer made four saves in the game to collect the win.  Whitman's Courtney Porter made eight saves, allowing the two Levien goals, in the losing effort.

The Loggers return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon when they take on Whitworth.  Gametime with the Pirates is set for Noon on East Athletic Field in Tacoma, Wash.

In three seasons in net, Kallie has helped deliver three straight NWC titles and will be going for a fourth in 2009. The biology major excels in the classroom as well. "My favorite class at UPS has been Evolution and Diversity of Life with Peter Hodum. That was the class that helped me decide to major in biology."
