#6 Loggers Clinch Share Of NWC Title With 2-0 Win

TACOMA, Wash. - Two first-half goals was all it took for the sixth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers to clinch at least a tie for their seventh straight Northwest Conference title with a 2-0 win over the 16th-ranked Whitworth Pirates in a NWC women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon on East Athletic Field in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers (14-1-0, 12-0-0 NWC) got on the board first in the 9th minute when Fiona Gornick (Portland, Ore./Grant) dribbled into the middle of the box and found Janece Levien (Beaverton, Ore.) on the right side for Levien's 20th goal of the season and a 1-0 Logger lead.  UPS made it 2-0 in the 28th minute following a long feed by Nikki Graff (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley) that found freshman Jenny Moore (Kent, Wash./Kentwood) and Moore finished the play for the 2-0 lead.

Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) made three saves to collect the shutout.  Callie Bergstrom made five saves for the Pirates, allowing the two UPS goals.

The win gave the Loggers a 12-point advantage over second-place Willamette in the NWC standings.  With just four games to go, the Loggers can clinch sole possession of the conference title with a win or a tie in any of their remaining games.

The Loggers will attempt to do just that on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Forest Grove, Ore. to take on Pacific.  Gametime with the Boxers is set for Noon.

"Our playoff game game against Whitworth my freshman year is my best memory as a Logger. The stands were packed and I had never played in such a fun and rewarding game or environment."
