Gornick, Wolfer Named Academic All-District

TACOMA, Wash. - After already having helped the sixth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers collect a seventh-straight Northwest Conference title, junior Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) and senior Fiona Gornick (Portland, Ore./Grant) picked up an academic honor on Thursday morning, earning a spot on the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.

Wolfer, a biology major and the defending NWC Defensive Player of the Year, has only allowed four goals in 1106:16 for a 0.33 GAA.  Before allowing a goal last Saturday, Wolfer and the Loggers had not allowed an opponent to score in 658:25.  Wolfer is currently seventh in the nation in GAA and 21st in save percentage (.879).

Gornick, a senior midfielder and exercise science major, leads the NWC in assists (8) and assists per game (0.6).  Her assists per game put her 26th on the national list.  A First Team All-NWC selection in 2007 and a Second Team All-NWC selection in 2006, Gornick has played a major role in the Loggers success the past four seasons.

By earning a spot on the Academic All-District First Team, both Wolfer and Gornick are now eligible for selection to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America team, which will be released in November.

The Academic All-America program is run by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
