#4 Loggers Sweep NWC Postseason Awards

SPOKANE, Wash. – Senior Janece Levien (Beaverton, Ore.) picked up her third straight Northwest Conference Offensive Women’s Soccer Player of the Year award while senior Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) earned the NWC Defensive Player of the Year award and head coach Randy Hanson was named NWC Coach of the Year as the fourth-ranked Puget Loggers dominated the 2009 All-NWC teams, as announced on Thursday morning.

Levien was named outstanding offensive player for the third consecutive season after scoring 19 goals for the NWC-champion Loggers, who open up postseason play this weekend in California. In addition to her third straight player of the year award, she also was named First Team All-NWC for the fourth time in her career.

Wolfer earned outstanding defensive player honors after posting a 0.36 GAA to become the seventh-straight Logger to win the honor in the seven years that the award has been presented. It also marks the third time that she has been named First Team All-NWC.

Hanson earned coach of the year honors for the eighth time in his career after leading the Loggers to a regular season record of 18-1-0 and an eighth straight conference title, his ninth title overall. He became the 40th coach in Division III history to earn his 200th career victory on Oct. 10 at Linfield.

In addition to Levien and Wolfer earning first team honors, junior Serwaah Fordjour (Shoreline, Wash./Shorewood), and sophomore Abby Goss (Spokane, Wash./University), Mikaela Freeman (Alameda, Calif./Bishop O’Dowd) and Jenny Moore (Kent, Wash./Ketnwood) were all named to the first team as the Loggers made up half of the 12-member team.

Junior midfielder Kayla Boortz (Greenwood Village, Colo./Regis Jesuit) was named to the Second Team All-NWC while junior Kelly Andersen (Centennial, Colo./Littleton) was named Honorable Mention.

The Loggers open up the 2009 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship on Saturday afternoon when they take on the Cowgirls of Hardin-Simmons University in a first round game at Claremont-M-S in Claremont, Calif.
