Logger Quartet Named Academic All-District

TACOMA, Wash. - In the midst of putting together all-conference seasons on the pitch, a quartet of Puget Sound Logger soccer players have also been honored for their excellent work in the classroom, being named ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District.

Senior Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline), junior Ben Coffey (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) and sophomore Jenny Moore (Kent, Wash./Kentwood) were all named First Team selections, making them eligible for Academic All-American honors.  Sophomore Mikaela Freeman (Alameda, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) was named a Second-Team recipient in her first year eligible for the award.

Wolfer earns honors after posting a 3.86 grade-point average as a Biology major.  She also holds a 0.40 goals-against average as starting goalkeeper for the fourth-ranked Logger women's soccer team.  A 2008 First-Team All-Northwest Conference selection, she also earned Academic All-District honors last season.

Coffey represents the Logger men's soccer team after carrying a 3.90 grade-point average as a physics major while starting on the back row for the maroon and white.  With one assist to his name this season, he has anchored the defense that has allowed just 20 goals in 2009.

Moore collects honors for the first time after earning a 3.95 grade-point average in the classroom as an exercise science major.  On the pitch, Moore has scored eight goals and assisted on five others while picking up Second-Team All-NWC honors as a freshman.

Freeman, who leads the Loggers with 12 assists in 2009, was named a second-team selection after posting a 3.52 grade-point average.  In addition to her 12 assists, he has scored eight times this season, including two game winners and a successful penalty kick.

The Academic All-America program is run by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
