#11 Loggers Storm Past #2 Thunder, 1-0

WHEATON, Ill. - The 11th-ranked Puget Sound Loggers were able to do what only one other team has been able to do in the past two seasons, defeating the second-ranked Wheaton Thunder on their home field with a 1-0 victory on Saturday evening at Joe Bean Stadium in Wheaton, Ill.

After heading into halftime scoreless, the Loggers made it 1-0 in the 59th minute as senior Janece Levien (Beaverton, Ore.) broke away from the Wheaton defense to beat the Thunder keeper for her second goal of the season.

Senior keeper Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) had an outstanding match, making four saves to survive the Wheaton offensive attack.  The win was the first by an opposing team at Joe Bean stadium since Oct. 25, 2008 when Illinois Wesleyan defeated then-15th ranked Wheaton, 2-1.

The Loggers return to Tacoma to make their 2009 home debut on Saturday afternoon against Pomona-Pitzer.  That game is set for Noon on East Athletic Field.

A two-time Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Janece is set to leave the women's soccer program as perhaps the best to ever wear the maroon and white. "I chose Puget Sound because I wanted to go to a small school where I could focus on school and have soccer be a priority, but not my life, in case of injury. The people here are very friendly and the campus is beautiful."
