#2 Loggers Pound Pios, 5-0

PORTLAND, Ore. - In five games this season, the Lewis & Clark Pioneers hadn't allowed a goal but the second-ranked Puget Sound Loggers made up for previous opponents woes, pounding past the Pioneers, 5-0, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon at Griswold Stadium in Portland, Ore.

The Loggers (5-0-0, 2-0-0 NWC) got on the scoreboard early when sophomore Jenny Moore (Kent, Wash./Kentwood) fired a shot under L&C keeper Elise Delgado in the 11th minute for the early 1-0 lead.  Fellow sophomore Mikaela Freeman (Alameda, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) made it 2-0 in the 17th minute on a successful penalty kick and the Moore scored yet again in the 25th minute to make it 3-0.

Senior Janece Levien (Beaverton, Ore.) made it 4-0 shortly before halftime, using the old-school Astroturf in Portland to bounce a shot over Delgado.  The goal was not only Levien's sixth of the season but the 58th of her career, tying her for the top spot all-time in Logger women's soccer history with 2005 national player of the year Cortney Kjar.

Puget Sound added their final goal in the 81st minute when Melissa Abellanida (Pukalani, Hawaii/King Kekaulike) took a pass from Theresa Henle (Issaquah, Wash.) and fired it into the upper right corner of the net for the 5-0 Logger victory.

Three of the Logger goalkeepers saw action in the match with junior Katie Wheeler (Oregon City, Ore.) the only one that was forced to make a save.  Puget Sound outshot Lewis & Clark, 24-5, in the relatively clean match, that saw just 11 fouls called.

The Loggers return home next weekend as they play host to Whitworth on Saturday and Whitman on Sunday.  Both games are set for Noon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

A two-time Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Janece is set to leave the women's soccer program as perhaps the best to ever wear the maroon and white. "I chose Puget Sound because I wanted to go to a small school where I could focus on school and have soccer be a priority, but not my life, in case of injury. The people here are very friendly and the campus is beautiful."
