#5 Loggers Trap Bearcats, 3-0

TACOMA, Wash. - After playing a nearly scoreless first half, the fifth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers provided the necessary offense to blank the Willamette Bearcats, 3-0, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers, ranked fifth in the latest D3soccer.com Top 25, took the lead shortly before halftime when senior All-American Janece Levien (Beaverton, Ore.) unleashed a left-footed shot from outside the box that floated over the head of Willamette keeper Jill Schneeman.

In the 50th minute, the Loggers struck again as Kelly Anderson (Centennial, Colo./Littleton) fed a long cross in from the right side and Theresa Henle (Issaquah, Wash.) got a foot on the ball from about 12 yards out for her second goal of the season.  Puget Sound made it 3-0 in the 61st minute when Andersen dribbled through a group of Willamette defenders and unleashed a shot that found its way past Schneeman.

The Loggers outshot the Bearcats by a final tally of 27-6.  Senior keeper Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) made four saves to collect the win.  Katie Wheeler (Oregon City, Ore.) made one save in 13 minutes played to help the Loggers collect the shutout.  Schneeman finished with eight saves on the day while the Willamette defense was also credited with three saves in the match.

The Loggers play host to crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday afternoon, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

A two-time Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Janece is set to leave the women's soccer program as perhaps the best to ever wear the maroon and white. "I chose Puget Sound because I wanted to go to a small school where I could focus on school and have soccer be a priority, but not my life, in case of injury. The people here are very friendly and the campus is beautiful."
