Loggers Headed To California For Match-Up With Cowgirls

INDIANAPOLIS - The fourth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers knew they were in the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship by virtue of an eighth straight Northwest Conference title but it wasn't until Monday morning that they knew that they were headed to California for a first-round match-up with Hardin-Simmons.

The Loggers (18-1-0, 15-1-0 NWC) will meet the Cowgirls (18-1-0, 12-0-0 American Southwest Conference) at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in one of two first round games hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.  In the other game, which is set for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, the host Athenas (15-2-2, 10-0-2 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) will play UC Santa Cruz (12-6-0). The winners of those two games will meet at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The Loggers last faced Hardin-Simmons in the first round of the 2006 tournament, officially playing to a 2-2 draw but falling 6-5 in a shootout for the right to advance.

Trinity (Texas) received the lone first-round bye in the 63 team field.  The tournament will begin with one game on Thursday and four more first round games on Friday before the remainder of the bracket begins play on Saturday.

More information regarding the games featuring the Loggers, including game times and ticket prices, will be posted when made available.

"I chose Puget Sound because I wanted to go to a small school where I could focus on school and have soccer be a priority, but not my life, in case of injury. The people here are very friendly and the campus is beautiful."
